Walking Pictures Back Again
One sign of the return of summer and peace-time conditions in the streets of Saltcoats on Monday was the re-appearance of the walking picture cameramen. We wonder if Saltcoats is going to be treated this holiday season to the sight that was an every day occurrence in an English resort last year - queues about 50 yards long waiting for one of these "natural" snaps to be taken.

I remember those photographers in Saltcoats in the 1950s - just across the road from Fleming's fruit & vegie shop in Dockhead Street. From what I recall the photographer had a partner who would collect contact details of the subjects in the photographs. Was this even legal back then?

It was legal provided they had paid for a Street Traders Licence from the Town Council in whose area they were operating, which many of them didn't. Some of them won over the weans by letting them hold a small monkey or large colourful bird. Anybody got such a photograph?
