Just heard that the Rowan Tree restaurant/cafe has been sold to GRO coffee of Irvine and Ayr.
We always visited when we came over, enjoyed their baked potatoes.
The owners have preferred to stick to the gardening side of the business and have a branch, excuse the pun, in Largs. They will carry on catering for the West Kilbride golf club.

Pt ,I havent received your message yet.

Nice to see a new badly needed cafe' along South Beach, Ardrossan, called South Beach Cafe' with a nice outside terrace for the warmer days, and even a sauna hut for the brave.
I hope they will be successful in this new venture.

There was a terrible storm yesterday in the three towns and the roof of the Swmming Pool/ Leisure Centre at Auchenharvie has been blown off. It will be closed for quite a while.

Indeed Jean it was crazy weather in most of Scotland yesterday. We went a walk this morning through Ravenspark golf course and there are trees down everywhere. Also many broken fences and felt from garage roofs lying about. A lot of cleaning up to do.
Those wimin were in the nip.

The roof on the Winton Rovers stadium has also been badly damaged, and the Home Hardware shop, ex Fullartons, in Dockhead Street, had its front window blown out. Slates llying all over the place and fences and trees down everywhere. The worst storm ever to hit the three towns.

Sign of the times. So many shoe shops are closing down.....everybody seems to prefer sneakers or sports shoes bought from sports shops. And women dont wear heels any more, unless there is a special occasion. Sad.

glenshena, Lots of nightclubs and pubs are closing plus the fact many women are still working from home following covid. Also the high streets are full of bookies and charity shops as customers shop online. My thoughts anyway.

Brian, when I arrived here in the early 70s, there were 700 residents in the village, and with a touch of sadness I remember that there was a butchers, bakers, fruit shop, police station, two petrol stations/garage,shoe shop, wine shop, flower shop, bread shop, dairy, grocers and mini-market. All gone. Some have been converted into bars and restaurants, catering for the ever growing tourist trade, but the rest are just boarded up. The residents are now 676, and like me obviously do their shopping in the nearest shopping mall, 15 miles away. There is a market every Monday, the fruit and veg stall is the most popular.
The times they are a changing.

Oh what a shame glenshena, it must have been a lovely village in the past and I agree with you boarded up shops are so depressing on the eye. The fruit and veg market seems to be the only consolation.Yes times are a changing-where I live the shopping centre in the middle of the City is coming down and replaced with science laboratories

There is no sign of starting repairs at Auchenharvie swimming pool so my grandaughter thought to try the New pool at irvine. Never again. The place packed out with schoolchildren, and screaming teenagers, and the changing rooms were unisex. Not to mention the difficulty of findng a place to park.
Can anyone suggest a nice pool nearby, quiet and peaceful like Auchenharvie?
Largs pool is also awaiting roof repairs, and is closed indefinitely.
