stevenston cafes

Post by bobbydarg »

hi. group,
i was reading how a lot of you went to cafes in saltcoats. did anyone stay in stevenston and go to tognaries in new street? i remember in the 60s going there and sitting all night with a couple of bottles of coke and playing the jukebox it was always busy and always a good laugh and never any bother.

I thought I knew New Street pretty well 'cos I used to walk up it from the bottom end from oor Betty's hoose in Sommerville Drive regularly in the early 1960s. Although the name rings a bell the only cafe I remember was further down on the Shore Road next to the Ardeer Halls and across from the Co-op. But during daylight hours I do remember a tearoom further up New Street that was pretty popular.
