I remember ships, tied up on the western side of jerry's pier, that's the opposite side from the lovely wee sandy beach, where we used to dig for rag worms to use as bait for the fishing. These boats would be {I assume} waiting for the tide to be right before the Coffer dam, {which also acted as a small bridge over to the lighthouse side} Was dropped and lay on the bottom letting the ships pass over.
But sorry I have on idea why it was called Jerrys Pier, maybe he some town worthy or fisher man in the past.
