Yes, the old RAOC just before Irvine Central Hospital ,coming from Kilwinning,and just before its boundary with Irvine Central was the Irvine sign post.
Princess Anne also took part in horseriding comps.at the Rowallan Estate.

I would imagine you are right Hughie. Where was the Eglinton Estate? I know it was taken over by the War Department during the war. As To my Aunt Margaret's place - whether they were called prefabs or bungalows I dont know. As I said all very vague. Last time I visited would have been about 1953 when I was six or seven. This BBC video portrays Irvine in 1965, when plans for its becoming a New Town were being mooted. A warning,the sound isn't that good,and is missing altogether in places.

Unfortunately, it's not before my time, but I thoroughly enjoyed seeing old familar landmarks, many of which have since succumbed to what they call progress :(
Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.
