Hi Chris - I went to school with Carl Olsen - he lived up the scheme in Saltcoats, started at Ardrossan Academy 1967 leaving around 1971/2. Thats all I know, sorry.

Thanks for that Meg. Strange that I haven't heard of another Olsen in the three towns.
You would have thought that some mutual acquaintance would have mentioned it to me, with such an uncommon name.

Cheers Chriso

Westlund was another name that just came to mind. I think there was a family in Ashgrove Road, Ardrossan.

Hi Arrangazer,

Pllu is a Dutch name.

Shuggie,

Never heard of Flukker here in Holland.

Wee Shuggie,

Flukker may or may not be a Dutch name but I remember the family too.

Pllu is interesting too. I don't know why I never ever thought of that as an non-Scottish/British name. Maybe it was a subconscious thing because we tended locally to call a plough a ploo and therefore it was aways naturally in our vocabulary?

Wee Shuggie,

I see Fflocker is an ancient Scots name, likely now to be Flucker. Could this have been the local spelling?

Further to what Meg said about the Olsens; Carl's younger sister Dawne was in my class and I think their name was spelled Olson rather than Olsen. At any rate it came from their American father, who was divorced from their mother ( quite an American-seeming thing in itself in those days when divorce was very much rarer in Britain than now ) ; I remember Dawne telling us about trips to America to see him. So there's probably no connection with Chris's family at all there.
