Irvine Bank Street
Found this photo the other day. My Mrs is originally from Irvine so must have got this handed down from her parents.
It shows Bank Street in Irvine but Ive no idea what year its from.

I agree Ardrossan. Perhaps somebody could check using the license number of the van on the left. It can be clearly read. I estimate mid-50's.
An also curious JD.

Ithink that picture was taken from where the buses stop at the cross looking up the main bus route. Bank st. would be round to the right.

Re: Irvine Bank Street
Sorry folks, but I disagree.
The picture is taken facing the river and the harbour. That's the Co-op on the corner to the left and the funny old round building, I think it was a cobblers, on the opposite corner.
Going left at the lights from this perspective would take you to Kilmarnock, and to the right, to Kilwinning.
JD.

I agree with JD, the photographer was standing in Bank St . If you went straight ahead across the river you came to a junction, to your left was the road to Troon. Just through the junction was Harry Fairbairns wee shop, this was before he built the big showrooms in Irvine.

Yes, John. I believe you are right. And just back towards Kilwinning from that corner on the right was the Eglinton Arms Hotel where we used to have a few pints before heading down the laneway to the dancing at the Ritz.
Re: Irvine Bank Street
i stand corrected, i can see the church in the left background. That will the church that stands outside the mall.

Re: Irvine Bank Street
Hi Folks just seen the photo and it looks like it was taken from the opposite site of the picture house in Bank street where the Taxi rank is now and if you turn to the left it would take you to Kilmarnock and to the right to Killwinning .
Nice photo thanks for sharing

On the Corner to the right of the picture was the Saddler. It was called Saddlers Corner.

Easiphit was a Jewellers at one time,Not sure if before or after Easiphit.Next shop towards the Mall was a menswear Shop.Other side of Easiphit going towards the Bus stop was a Newsagents.A Wool shop i believe was next ,or was it the Butchers? Last one at the end was a lovely Babies shop. Was there not a car insurance place along there also? A Bank.
