Took this on a cruise to the Artic Circle with my wife and 15-year-old granddaughter. It is Fred. Olsen's Boudicca in Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen.

Living inland away from the Threetowns this 'desktop' fills my need to see Arran on a daily basis.

My original photo was too large to post and by cropping it top and bottom I was left with the two black bands which conspiculously accommodate my icons, some of which were previously difficult to distinguish against earlier selections.

Desktop screen shots. Time to show and tell again. This is one of our six grand daughters, Laura, who was busy with her ipod birthday present catching our grandson Fraser picking his nose. Bet we'll all be reminded of this in the years to come.

The cruise ship Dawn Princess heading from Melbourne to New Zealand. This is her passing the Queenscliff Fort wherein sits the black lighthouse. This is just a few miles short of the exit from Port Phillip Bay (known as the RIP) at Point Londsdale - about three hours plus sailing time from Melbourne.

Image
The entrance was 3.5 metres above ground level reflecting the English lighthouses that where built on rocks at sea level. The entrance was later rebuilt at ground level.
There are two greatly disputed stories of the origins of the bluestone used to build the lighthouse.
One version claims that the stone came from Scotland already cut and dressed as ship's ballast.
The other version which is considered to be the official one is that the stone was quarried in Melbourne and brought by barge to Queenscliff. Proponents of this theory claim that the barging in of the stone is what lead to the misconception over the origin of the stone.

Upgraded to windows 8.1 recently and also decided to change my screen wallpaper to something a bit more seasonal.
This pic's from a day trip to Arran a couple of years ago. Took a wee walk up Glen Rosa way - and aye, it was cauld! - the photo itself is of Cir Mhor, which I believe means "Great Comb" :)

Thanks for that kind comment Meg.

Here's another - probably more familiar - screenshot, again from a trip to Arran in winter time.

It's a view of the bridge over the burn at the 18th hole at Brodick golf course - with a snow capped Goatfell in the background. Played golf here many times, usually during the summer months though. :)
