On a kinda funny note, Father Maxwell gave me and Catherine Murphy a lift to St. Johns. We were in the back seat with his golden lab and the dog was a little, er, excited. Every time the car turned a corner the dog and his 'pinkie protrusion' slid either towards me or Cath. Needless to say, it was hilarious when the other person was on the 'receiving sid', and horrifying for wee Scottish Catholic lassies when the dog slid towards us!

Just reading some of the e-mails brought back
some memories.
Fr.Nimmo! So quiet Fr. Mclaughlin! He would have put
the fear of God into Ian Paisley, a right pulpit thumper.
Canon Maxwell, a lovely man & his sister was the housekeeper
They had a golden labrador & a cat.the dinner ladies, I can only
remember Mrs. Bird.
Now I have stirred the old grey matter, perhaps a few other
names may surface.
By the way, someone mentioned Patricia Hanlon,
saw her the last two years I've been back to the "shire"

Frank, I well remember Fr. McLaughlin sitting across from grampa Quinn both with a tot o' whisky roaring with laughter. Gran didn't approve of drink, especially in daytime , but since it was the priest... all the excuse grampa needed!,

Hi John, I am indeed a three towner, but I wasn't born until 1954
I entered St. John's in 1959 in Miss Reid's Class and left in 1963 in Miss Rose Traynor's class. I have no class photos for those times and am looking frequently to see if anyone has posted a photo:)

Uncle Frank Quinn was a great laugh..good sense of humour and very light hearted. He came to visit me here with my mum. Took a wee daily jaunt..probably got to know more folk in a week than I did in years! He always saw the good in everything...oh, I've got stories! Wee Frank, you're looking a lot like your sis Moira in that pic!
One of a kind, God bless uncle Frank!
p.s., I was pregnant when he visited and my son, Nick, was born on his birthday..

Mike Walsh, Arthur Breslin, Willie Burns, Peter Bird, (you missed him), Gerry O'Sullivan, Josie Burns and Frank Quinn were all in our class.
Tom Mclaughlin was two years younger, Michael O'Sullivan was Gerry's brother, three years younger.
Don't know how they let Bobby Lennox in from Saltcoats; (probably something to do with how good he was).
Smyth, Kirk and McAvoy, are unknown for me, as is Mr. Vogwell.

That's Pat McAvoy, probably known to some on here as a Saltcoats Bowling Club member.

His wife Trina looks after functions in St Mary's Church Hall, like Baptisms and funerals. Pat is seen helping her out occasionally in there. He's a wee nutjob, but in a good way, if you know what I mean.
