Hi. I'm looking for records on my great grandfather, Patrick Cambridge. He was born in 1906, but he had three siblings born before 1901: Ann, Hugh, and Ellen. All I know of the parents is that the mother's name was Esther. All of the children emigrated to New York between 1920 and 1930, but the parents stayed behind in Stevenston at 13 Moorpark West. I would greatly appreciate any help you could give me.

Hi,
I found the family in the 1901 census. Your going to be surprised I think. There are a lot more sibblings then you thought.

1901 census
Arthur Cambridge - 46 born 1855 Ireland - Dynamite Worker
Esther Cambridge - 37 born 1864 Kilwinning, Ayr
Elizabeth - daughter - 17 born 1884 Stevenston - dynamite worker
John - son - 13 born 1888 Stevenston - message boy
Arthur - son- 4 born 1897 Stevenston
Henry - son - 9 born 1892 Stevenston
Mary - daughter - 8 born 1893 Stevenston
Alexander - son - 6 born 1895 Stevenston
Esther - daughter - 6 born 1895 Stevenston
Annie - daughter - 4 born 1897 Stevenston
Hugh - son - 2 born 1899 Stevenston
Ellen - daughter - 1 born 1900 Stevenston
Address - Station Sq. No 36 Stevenston, Ayr

This is a start........I'll have a look at the other census and see if I can find the family. As for finding Arthur's parents it may be difficult coming from Ireland. There are not a lot of records left.
Hope this helps a bit,
Ann

I would be really keen to find out whether he was family of one of my ancestors, Thomas Adams (b1811). Most of my family of those generations settled in Kilmarnock/Ardrossan/Saltcoats.

An article in Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald has an article about my great-grandfather John Adams' (d1937) passing. According to what I can find, he had a brother named James. He was also married to an Elizabeth :)

John Donnelly wrote:Ann and Hugh,

thanks very much for this.

I have a friend here in Holland called Allan Poot, who comes from S.A. He only knows that his grandmother, (possibly g-gr-mother) came from Ardrossan. He asked me if I could find anything for him.The details I gave were all that he had.

I will pass this on to him. Again, thanks a million. Allan will be very pleased. Up till now they had no background at all.
