WHERE IS "CARLETON MAINS"

I have the Birth Extract of a great-uncle which details his place of birth as "Bridgend of Carleton Mains".
Can anyone enlighten me as to exactly where this is? I believe it may be around the Girvan area somewhere but I was advised he was born in Ballantrae.
