In 1964 a local businessman in the textile industry decided to open a supermarket in Como, selling also clothes, then in 1965 another one nearby but this time decided to call It Bennet, as he was enamoured with the American crooner Tony Bennet who has just passed on at 96 Years old. The Bennet supermarket chain has now opened in 24 cities throughout the North of Italy, for a total of 65 hypermarkets, employing more than 7000 staff.
I must say that I am also a fan of Tony Bennet, and his big hit ' I left my Heart in San Francisco' is a great favorite of mine, never get tired of hearing it.
