Hi Everyone,
We ‘flitted’ from Boydston Rd to Cunninghame rd in Ardrossan. It was a new house and I remember us going along to see it nearly built I was a wee boy so maybe late 50s or early 60s??? Does anyone know when Cunninghame Rd was built? I can’t find out on any land registers etc.
cheers
Philip Darbyshire, Adelaide, Australia.

Re: When was Cunninghame rd, Ardrossan built?
Hi Philip,
Google only takes me to the Cunninghame Road in Saltcoats. But I see there is a Cunninghame Road in Ardrossan according to my Nicholson Street Guide of the three towns. It's listed in the index but not showing in the street guide proper, and it seems to point to within the Harvey Gardens area. I've been gone a long time and remember competing in our Eglinton School sports at Harvey Park in 1956. So your assumption of the houses being built in the late fifties seem to be correct. Hope this helps.

Hughie,
The street in Ardrossan has only one 'N' - viz. CUNINGHAME ROAD, and I reckon it was definitely there in 1959 (off Queen's Drive), when I had evening newspaper customers, including Philips next door neighbour - AITKEN.

Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.

Penny Tray is right about Cuninghame Road. It has only one 'n' after 'Cu'. This can be seen by clicking on the link below for a photo of the street nameplate taken in August 2005.

I think this is a spelling mistake since on North Ayrshire Council's website and Postcode Finder the spelling is Cunninghame.
This morning, I went to Cunninghame Road to see it the nameplate had been changed - but it hasn't.
Incidentally, the links below lead to two other photos of the road, also taken in August 2005.

Thanks, Penny and George. The local street guide I have I bought in Saltcoats on one of my trips home, probably the earliest trip in 1978 - it should have been in it.

It seems the road was built some time after 1958
