Hi All, My grandfather was a partner in the betting firm Mitchell’s of Saltcoats, I was a young boy, but had some memories of the history of the firm in Saltcoats. Wallace

Hi Sam,

Always nice to hear from you. You made me smile when I thought of my pal's grampa "lifting" for Saltcoats Polis  : -

Hi wellpark09,I’m trying to put together when my grandfather Samuel McCutcheon moved from Cambuslang to Saltcoats in around 1930 and assisted with running the office for Willie Mitchell at 3 Hill Street Saltcoats. My mother Sadie McCutcheon was born in Cambuslang in 1925 and I remember my mum saying that she started at Kyleshill School , Saltcoats around 1930. The family were living at 3 Hill Street possibly above the office. Regards Wallace

Hi wellparker09, I think Willie Mitchell was my grandfathers uncle, there was an old Willie and young Willie, I assumed that the younger one was the son. My grandfather Sam took over the running of the business before it was taken over by a major bookmaker.
