**Distressing Occurrence—Upon Thursday, the 15th current, Henry McConnell, labourer, and Samuel Lewis, mason, both in the employment of Mr George Robertson, builder, West Kilbride, left the harbour of Portencross about half past three, p.m., in an open boat, for the purpose of conveying a cart of lime and two carts of stones to the neighbouring island of Little Cumbrae, a distance of 2 ½ miles. The boat was observed from Portencross when half-way over, and apparently doing well; but since then no trace of the men or boat can be found. It is now generally supposed, that owing to the cargo, and the leaky condition of the boat, they must have sunk to the bottom. Any information concerning the finding of the dead bodies will be thankfully received; address to the 'Post-office of West Kilbride, by Greenock.' The description of the bodies is as follows:—Connell was about 5 feet 2 inches in height, stout made, hair and whiskers of a sandy colour; and wore a white jacket, dark coloured vest and trousers, grey stockings, and strong lacing boots. Lewis was 6 feet in height, hair of a sandy colour, had a large flesh mark on the left cheek, and wore moleskin jacket, vest, and trousers, and black bonnet. For the sake of the distressed relatives, the various editors of the county newspapers are requested to copy this into their respective sheets.
