Re: Stevenston gassworks.
The enterance to the gas works was one of 2 places the road opposite the Co Building where the sheltered housing is just now,the was another entry which was less obvious come down Mayville Street,on to Glebe Street look straight across the road no left or right there was a road where Alister Maxwell had his earlier surgery, he had a few buildings there some of the the road passed as an entry Donnelly's Newspaper shop was other side to Maxwell'sfloydian slip wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 3:46 pm The Gas works were on boglemart Street I'm sure , behind bonnie Leslie Court.
It was also the burrough yard , the shops in the front street across from the old co-op were nielies newspaper shop , boyds shop , butter , cheese veg etc and then there was a little sowing shop if my memory serves.
I used to get such a cuff on the ear for playing in the gasy works and burrough yard as well as the local dump and the CHEESY HILL.
Piling mattresses from the dump up and launching ourselves off the cheesy Hill.
Good days , as kids we were never in except for tea.
Changed days
