The rule was brought in to stop teams being defensive when playing away from home, but in fact it stifled open play in the tie overall. Never agreed with it when it was brought in and I’m happy to see it dropped.
That's fine meekan. I respect your reply.. thanks for posting.

Just as a matter of interest . Do you agree about the change this year.

Not for me.
Brian,

In recent years I’ve become more and more convinced that UEFA and FIFA are determined to spoil “the beautiful game”, rather than promote it. The only positive contribution they’ve made, in my opinion, has been the introduction of goal-line technology. VAR, on the other hand has been an absolute disaster.

Their dilemma about whether or not ‘away’ goals should count double could very simply be resolved by deciding that in the event of a ‘draw,’ the team having accrued most ‘corners-kicks’ over the two games is awarded the tie; followed (in the unlikely event that the match is still ‘drawn’) by the team having accrued the most “throw-ins” in the opposition half, being awarded the tie; and (in the very unlikely event that the match is still ‘drawn’) by the current system of ‘penalty kicks’.

This would almost guarantee that ties comprised two matches of 90 minutes duration, which would enhance crowd safety procedures towards the end of a game, and compliment travel arrangements for the ‘away’ team.

It would also encourage teams to “attack” in both matches, and mitigate against booting the ball out the park as a tactic.

This is not new idea; it was used at my school in the 1960s, when thirty-two teams were allowed to enter the annual seven-a-side competition to decide which two teams played in the five-minutes each way final on Sports Day.

I have a vague recollection of one match having to be decided on ‘throw-ins,” and none whatsoever going to “penalty kicks”, or, to keep matters factual, the toss of a coin in those days.

Two BT Sport pundit's were refused entry into Ibrox stadium to perform media duties at Rangers Europa league group stage tie against Lyon on Thursday night .. baffling stuff, plus it seems a bit ironic to read that the phrase 'Everyone and Anyone' is a big part of the clubs own supposed 'Diversity and Inclusion' programme.

Rangers lost the tie 0 - 2, while Celtic also suffered defeat losing 4 - 3 to Real Betis in Spain.
