My mother's Uncle Ar emigrated to Brisbane in the 1920s, and among the pictures he sent back were a series of postcard views of the city , which I would guess date from the later 1940s or early 1950s. I thought they might interest our Aussie members.

Here are the first four :

View from Wickham Terrace; I guess this will have changed a lot :

View from Mount Coot-Tha :

Queen Street; the presence of trams could well help date this :

and the King George V Memorial; again, this will set an earliest date and suggests the pictures can't be as early as the 1930s :

I've found a note on Wikipedia that Story Bridge was opened in 1940, so that gives us an earliest date for these pictures. ( However I also discovered the trams continued until 1969, so not much help there ! ) :

Continuing the theme of bridges, here's Victoria Bridge :

And Grey Street Bridge :

And here's the Hornibrook Highway :

City Hall and the Anzac Memorial were both completed in 1930 :

Strong North Ayrshire connection there. Brisbane is named after Largs born Sir Thomas Brisbane, the Governor of New South Wales from 1821 to 1825—the area was chosen as a place for secondary offenders from the Sydney Colony. Have a couple of cousins there - nice city.

The old parliament doors came from Largs too Hughie and I believe at the time when they built the new parliament building they were put there too.
