I think we used to refer to the big plant as the Wonderloaf and the wee shop as Morrison's, probably just to differentiate?

Doubt it Viv, they were purely bakers, don't remember when they closed though, they were in the late 60's.

James Morrison was my grandfather. Just did a search on the bakery and found this thread. I’ve enjoyed reading it 😁

Bridgend Garage bought the site circa 1984 after it had been vacant four about 4 years, the bakery business was bought by Rank Hovis McDougall or Spillers, ( RHM had a link to ICI )
Warburton owns the trade name Wonderloaf

Bridgend Garage had sought to develop the site to a coachwork using the Glebe Street entrance
At the time one of the shopkeepers said to me it would increase his business turnover.
From memory 2 Councillors created a Problem for Bridgend

I’m sure Alec Gentleman sold hot rolls there Straight from the oven in the late sixties he stood just inside the bakery door. Another guy John Brannan (I think) who may or may not have been a relation of his delivered them early in the morning to the homes of customers.

He set up a couple of breadboards just inside the bakery door and sold them, If you wanted a loaf he would go through the back and get you one,I kind of remember Tattie Scones might have been available on request
I think he started about 20.30 Got the bingo about 21.00 ish and the Cross Keys and all from just after 22.00
