Can't help you with photos denside, but I remember frequenting the Kilmeny in the late 70's/early 80's. It was certainly one of the in places for young folk in the three towns to have a good time at weekends in those days.

Within the Kilmeny at that tme were Rioz Disco and Janeiros Lounge. Both very popular.
Have some great memories from then.

The dancing they had was very popular. On a similar note (so to speak) there was a trio from Greenock performed in the Red Herring, Anyone remember their name? I almost get it numerous times then...

Before them it was a group played folk music, Aran knit sweaters and all, one of my pals, ahead of the times, was strongly nationalist, though I didn't connect it then, went the pub to see them. I'll blame that on me downfall, pass the shiraz Hughie.. lol!

Try starting a new topic Morag with the name of the pub as the subject. There might be someone who knows but wont read the Kilmeny topic.

I'm getting confused. I was sure that in the early 1970's 'Mrs Cameron' was managing the Ingledene? I remember her fondly as after a particularly wild 'concert night' that I'd organised at the Ingledene, starring Saltcoats' own "The Psychle", she barred me :-) The band were playing loud and she kept telling them to turn it down while I told them to turn it up. Eventually, she pulled the plug and I 'led' all of the crowd along to the Lauriston for the rest of the night. What a rebellion! :-) As I say though, I was sure she was at the Ingleldne at that time. Can anyone clear the fog?

Cheers

I have no personal knowledge of all this, but I recalled seeing her mentioned in an article I posted earlier;it's the second article down at this link, and there it's down in black and white that it's the Kilmeny that Mrs Cameron was running in the mid-1970s ,at any rate.

The Kilmeny somehow re-invented itself as a young person's place in mid-1972.
Prior to that it was a very quiet lounge even on a Saturday night, then it took off when
a) the bar staff started playing long-haired patrons' albums they brought in (like, man...) and,
b) Mrs Cameron's son Alan instituted the pool table.
By 1973 it was packed every weekend, both day and evening.

Fast forward to the late 70's and someone was astute enough to re-brand the entire place with a Brazilian theme for the relatively short-lived Disco era.
Biggest surprise: went in one Saturday afternoon and Danny Williams, of Moon River fame, was sitting at the black concert Grand in the lobby, the area which one wit suggested earlier was called "De".

It was a Mrs Coleman that ran the Ingledene in the 70s before she took over the Bay Hotel in Saltcoats, probably in the early eighties.
