Hi Brianf
The game against Ireland is the important one being a euro qualifier. The team has been doing well under the guidance of Gordon Strachan and should win. But having watched Scotland for many many years now I have learned not to be over confident. Ireland have had some good results in this campaign so maybe its time for them to end their good run. I hope so.

As for the England game it will take care of itself in that we always like to beat them and we will be right up for it especially if we win against Ireland.

I reckon if we win the toss, we'll do a lap of honour  I remember in the 70s watching Scotland play England, when England scored three in the first 10 minutes, think the score ended up 5-1 - the auld man behind me in the pub (match was at wembley so I was watching in the Winton Bar) pleaded "c''mon Scotland, play for a draw". Hope springs eternal.

Correct, MEG -it was 5-1 in 1975  The goalkeeper that day was Stewart Kennedy of Rangers, he never played for Scotland again.

Good reply , Morag , nothing wrong with your memory. :)

Haffey is most often associated with Scotland's 9-3 loss to England at Wembley in 1961 - giving birth to the gag: 'What's the time? Nearly ten past Haffey' or 'Haffey past nine'. It would be Haffey's final match for Scotland.

Our switchboard lady at the construction of Hunterston B was our secret supplier of tickets for matches. Her mum was the cleaner at Falkirk FC and could always be relied on to get tickets for Hampden, even the England matches. Could pronounce all names of the players in the Scottish League in those days ....
