Why Hidden ?
Why Hidden ?
At the bottom of the board Index on this site we have all the info regarding who's currently online etc.
Something's been puzzling me for some time now, more-so recently.
Along the bottom it informs us, EG:
In total there are 103 users online:: 12 registered, 0 hidden and 91 guests etc etc etc.
I can understand this but what I don't get is the "hidden" option.
When you log in your username is displayed along the bottom and you're registered as being logged on, I get that.
But you don't have to log in to access and read the site, unless you want to post or access the members area,
I also get that. So why do we have the hidden option? What purpose does it serve?
Also, when using that option, can that person be seen/identified by the brass (mods/administrator) ?
I don't see any real need for it but as I said, just curios.

Re: Why Hidden ?
Perhaps simply because some people value their privacy?
Re: Why Hidden ?
Mmm, on a social networking site?
As I said, Bruce, wouldn't that be covered by the option not to log in?

Re: Why Hidden ?
Perhaps someone may want to read the non-public areas. Maybe while at work, so not wanting their boss to know?

That would be a yes!Richard wrote:

Re: Why Hidden ?
I think people use the 'hidden' option for various reasons.
For instance, I'm currently hidden whilst posting this, simply because I want to highlight the fact that I'm allowed my privacy. Is that a bad thing?

I can see being hidden because you don't want someone heckling you or whatever...and, yes, I've gone hidden before, not often mind, for just that reason. A wee bit of I want to tune in but not necessarily chime in. Shut up you lot!! lol!

Well me, myself, personally think it's the Special Branch, MI5, MI6, CIA, FBI and George Galloway checking up on the Republican Semi-Anarchist Subversives who voted MAYBE in the Referendum.

Morag, You live in the so called land of the free and the home of the brave and you're asking if privacy is a good thing?
