"Folk for the Clutha"
You will no doubt be aware of the tragic events that took place only a week ago at the Clutha Vaults bar in Glasgow.
The Clutha is a well known Glasgow landmark, and a busy music venue. On the night of the accident, a band was playing. The pub has a long history as a live music venue; as well as the organised gigs it is a popular “session” venue, with singers and musicians just turning up with instruments for a tune and a song with whoever else happens to be there. Billy Connolly and Gerry Rafferty were regular visitors back in their folk music days.
Throughout this tragedy, one of the overarching impressions has been of the spirit and resilience of the people of the city of Glasgow.
A number of fundraising events, many music-based, are being organised to support those affected by this tragedy, the emergency and rescue services and the wider community.
Celtic Music Radio, Glasgow’s community radio station focussing on traditional and contemporary Scottish/Irish/folk/roots music, and St Andrews In The Square, Glasgow’s centre for Scottish Music & Culture, are proud to present:
Folk for the Clutha
On Friday January 10th 2014, the folk community is coming together for a night of fabulous entertainment, to support those affected by the Clutha accident. We have been overwhelmed with offers of help from the entire community.
The programme is still being finalised, but already it includes:
Bill Adair
Paddy Callaghan
Steven Clark
Tom Fairnie
Haggerdash
Arthur Johnstone
Adam McCulloch
Lori McTear
Rudegin
Mick West
….and many more
The event takes place at St Andrews In The Square, Glasgow, only a couple of minutes walk from the Clutha, at 7.30pm. There are no tickets - entry is by donation at the door.
More info on the Facebook page, which will be updated as new performers are added to the programme.

... and it grows and grows.
When we first came up with the idea, we were a bit concerned. Would we have enough musicians to fill the night? Would we have enough audience to fill St Andrews In The Square?
The response from the community has been overwhelming - so much so that we've now doubled the number of musicians, and we're running over 2 nights!
The event will now take place on Friday 10 AND Saturday 11 Jan 2014. Same arrangements - 7.30 start, no tickets, donations on the door. Artists appearing over the 2 nights include: Pauline Alexander, Bill Adair, Paddy Callaghan, Steven Clark, Fiona Cuthill & Stevie Lawrence, Tom Fairnie, Haggerdash, Arthur Johnstone, Moira Kerr, Adam McCulloch, Lori McTear, The O'Cajunals, Rudegin, Mick West & Frank McLaughlin, and many more...
All of the performers and the backstage team are generously giving their time and talents to this cause.
If you like this style of music, please come along, and pass the word on to your friends. And if you don't know if you like this style of music, why not come along and find out. There are some stunningly good musicians on the programme.

Re: "Folk for the Clutha"
Bruce, I was talking to my mate last night, his band plays at the Clutha every other week. I asked if the regular artists planned on organising some kind of concert. He indicated that dates had been set for the weekend before the St Andrews venue but couldnt give me more information at this time.

Re: "Folk for the Clutha"
There are a huge number of events taking place - many of them on the weekend of the 3rd/4th/5th - all over the country - it's being billed as the "Clutha Benefit Weekend". The folk gig that we're organising is the following weekend, due to venue availability.
Lots of different styles of music to suit all tastes.
A full (ish) list of events, from this weekend through to end of January, follows:
(edit: the "master list", which is being updated daily is here: http://www.eventsforcharities.co.uk/Clu ... ekend.html
No point in keeping an out-of-date version here!)

Re: "Folk for the Clutha"
I see my mates band is scheduled to play on the 4th, he was hoping for this date as it would fit in with their appearance at the Clutha.

Latest poster for the "Folk for the Clutha" concerts on 10/11 January. Please pass this info on to anyone who you think may be interested.
If anyone knows of a space which has a high footfall, and would like a few A3 posters, drop me a line and I'll stick some printed copies in the post, or send you a hi-res image.
And if you'd like some info on any of the bands, just ask!
