FUTURE EXPANSION OF ARDEER FACTORY
At a meeting of Irvine Town Council held last night – Provost Borland presiding – a letter was submitted from the Secretary of State in reply to a communication from the council regarding the explosion at Ardeer in March last.
In this reply it was stated that in the event of any further application for permission to extend the explosive works towards Irvine any representations which the Town Council might make would be carefully considered, and such restrictions would be imposed as might be necessary to secure safety.
The meeting considered this satisfactory.

TWO HELD AFTER HOUSE FIRE
Two teenagers will appear at Kilmarnock today in connection with a fire in a council house at Stevenston, early yesterday.
Mrs Dulcie Fagan, aged 45, was still awake in her terraced home in Alexander Avenue, Stevenston, when she heard a crash, went to investigate, and found the downstairs living-room ablaze.
She hurried her children, Harty, aged 11; William, aged 9; and Dulcie, aged 6, to safety. Her husband William, aged 66, who is retired, arrived home as firemen tackled the blaze, which destroyed the contents of the living-room.

WAGES AT ARDEER WORKS
During the past week there has been considerable unrest among the employees at Nobel’s Ardeer factory owing to the delay of the Fair Wage Clause Committee in issuing their decision regarding the wages paid at Ardeer.
It will be remembered that the employees who were on strike returned to work some 10 weeks ago on being assured that an inquiry would take place forthwith.
At a meeting of the Union Committee on Thursday evening last Mr Gilbert Lewis, president of the Scottish Union of Dock Labourers was authorised to send the following telegram: -
“Position in Nobel’s acute; men threaten to stop; pleaser reply re inquiry some encouragement to keep men at work.”
On Friday evening Mr Lewis received the following reply from Sir George Askwith: -
“Reply your telegram. I have ascertained from Admiralty that the inquiry which their officers made is now concluded, and that the Admiralty are at present in communication with the firm – ASKWITH.”

FOOTBALL - SCOTTISH QUALIFYING CUP
Result: - Stevenston United, 1; Ayr United, 0 – Estimated attendance, 4000.
The home team were better suited by the small ground, Ayr never settling to a good game. The rushing method of the Stevenston forwards always threatened danger to a defence that was none too steady, and in the second half T. Hamilton scored the only goal of the match. Stevenston quite deserved to win.
Stevenston United team: –
Montgomery,
J. L. McEwan,
McIlwraith,
McGivern,
Rae,
Lipton,
T. Hamilton,
Bannerman,
Paton,
Farrell, and
G. Hamilton.
