CASUALTY OF WAR

Intimation has been received in Stevenston that Robert Conn, son of John Conn, contractor, has been wounded on the face, and is now being treated in a Manchester hospital.

Conn enlisted in the Gordon Highlanders in December last, and was sent to France after a short period of training.

Prior to enlisting he was working with his father.

At a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Scottish Junior Football Association held in Glasgow – Mr Robert Hay presiding - the team selected to represent Scotland against Ireland at Belfast on Saturday included: -

McMaster (Stevenston Thistle).

CAUSEWAYING IN STEVENSTON

The sub-committee in charge of the street causewaying at Stevenston has reported to the Northern District Committee of Ayrshire County Council the completion of the work.

The report states that the cost of the scheme has been kept within £50 or £60 of the estimate of £3000, and this despite the fact that a large portion of the work has been carried out since the beginning of the war.

SCOTTISH JUNIOR FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION

The Executive Committee of the Scottish Football Association met on Saturday evening in the S.F.A. Rooms, Carlton Place, Glasgow, - Mr Robert Hay presiding.

The team to represent Scotland against Birmingham Old Boys’ Association at Firhill Park on Saturday, March 30, was selected.

Elliot (Stevenston Thistle) was chosen as a reserve to accompany the team.

CASUALTY OF WAR
25 MARCH 1918

Died on service, Private Donald Wilson, (23), 6/7th Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers – Theatre of war, France and Flanders – son of the late Matthew and Elizabeth Wilson, Stevenston; and brother of Mrs Monaghan, Smithfield Terrace, Stevenston.

The Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald subsequently reported: -

“A telegram has been received by Mrs Monaghan, Smithfield Terrace, Stevenston, that her brother, Private Donald Wilson, Royal Scots Fusiliers, has died of wounds.

The community will sympathise with Mrs Monaghan in her loss.”
