STEVENSTON LIBERAL ASSOCIATION BAZAAR

The two-day bazaar held by Stevenston Liberal Association was opened on Saturday afternoon by Mr William Robertson, prospective Liberal candidate for South Ayrshire, in the absence of Mr A. M. Anderson, Solicitor-General, who was unable to attend.

The proceeds for the first day amounted to £450.

At Saturday’s opening Mr Joseph Russell, Seafield, Ardrossan, presided over a large attendance.

Glasgow Celtic had rather the best of the play in the first half and were leading 2 goals to 1 at half- time. On resuming Stevenston Thistle pressed hard and scored 2 goals.

Result: - Stevenston Thistle, 3; Glasgow Celtic, 2.

EVENING TIMES
22 OCTOBER 1956

THEFTS AT STEVENSTON

After a tin of biscuits was stolen from a Stevenston licensed grocer’s premises the manager went to another shop of his employer to report the theft, and when he was there his bicycle was stolen.

Details were given at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court today when James Hall Strachan Robertson, (28), labourer, 28 Boglemart Street, Stevenston, pled guilty to stealing the tin of biscuits and the bicycle. He admitted a previous conviction.

An accomplice with eight previous convictions, James Cardno Carle McIntosh, (28), 40 Boglemart Street, pled guilty to stealing the biscuits.

Honorary Sheriff-Substitute A. Cairns Smith sentenced McIntosh to 30 days’ imprisonment, and Robertson was fined £5 with the option of 30 days’ imprisonment.
