A meeting of this association was held in their rooms, Glasgow, last night – Mr Donald Galbraith in the chair.

A protest by Levern Victoria against Ardeer Thistle was dismissed for want of evidence.

STEVENSTON - POISONING

On Thursday evening, between 7 and 8 o'clock, a girl about 11 years of age, daughter of Alexander Campbell, furnace-keeper, Ardeer Square, who partook of the contents of a bottle which had unfortunately been left in her reach, took ill, and expired in about half an hour, medical aid being of no avail.

The bottle contained a mixture prepared by the girl's mother, from an ingredient discharged from the furnaces about the tuyeres, for washing purposes. It has very powerful cleansing properties, but is known to be deadly poison.

At Boma, Caledonian Road, Stevenston, on 16th November,1955, Provost Joseph Clark, J.P., in his 66th year, beloved husband of Euphemia Dick.

THE DEATH OF PROVOST JOSEPH CLARK AT STEVENSTON

Mr Joseph Clark, Provost of Stevenston, died suddenly yesterday at his home in Caledonian Road, Stevenston.

An auctioneer and pawnbroker, Mr Clark served on Stevenston Parish Council and was their last chairman. He was the chairman of Saltcoats District Council from 1935 to 1951, when he was elected a member of the first Stevenston Town Council, becoming Provost this year. He was a former chairman of Irvine and District Water Board.

Mr Clark was a past master of Lodge Thistle and Rose and had been session clerk since 1944 of the High Kirk of Stevenston.

He is survived by his wife and a grown-up family.
