The monthly meeting of the Scottish Football League First Division Committee was held in Glasgow last night. Mr W. Ward presided.

The explanation of Third Lanark Football Club regarding the playing of their tie versus Stevenston United on the date of the Inter-League match against the English League was accepted.

GREAT MEETING OF MINERS AT KILMARNOCK

A great meeting of miners, for the purpose of hearing reports from the various districts as to the results of the eight hours movement, was held yesterday, in the Corn Exchange Market. There was a large attendance.

The reports included: -

Stevenston – Still on strike; the men remaining firm.

STEVENSTON PARISH COUNCIL SCHEMES

Stevenston Parish Council have propounded various schemes to the Ayrshire Public-House Trust, who have announced their readiness to do something for the town. Suggestions for the building of a shelter, the erection of a public institute, the formation of a town’s band, etc., having been rejected the Council have decided to ask for information as to the amount that would be available for improvements.

THE HOMELESS

The Ardrossan Police, in assisting the enumerators in taking note of persons lying out and on the tramp, had occasion to apprehend 15 men for trespass at the Stevenston pits. These cases, along with five persons for being drunk were dealt with at the Burgh and Justice of the Peace Courts yesterday, and fines varying from 2s 6d and 25s were imposed.

FATAL ACCIDENT ON RAILWAY

Yesterday afternoon James Cochrane, (43), brick-work labourer, was run down by a pug engine on the branch line to Ardeer Iron Works, Stevenston, and killed.

Deceased was a widower, and resided with his brother in New Street, Stevenston.

SHOPBREAKING AT STEVENSTON

Some time ago we reported that a father and son had been detected breaking into the premises of Mr Robert Hogarth, junior, grocer and spirit-dealer, Stevenston; that the son had been caught and duly punished; but that the father had “bolted,” and was at large. He had been so for a considerable period, but Mr Hogarth’s father having lately learned that he had been seen at Kilbirnie, proceeded thither with a police officer.

On their calling at the house of a relative of the party he was denied, but by importunity and threatening, they at last procured admittance.

After searching they discovered a bed warm as if some person had newly risen therefrom. On lifting the lid of a chest they found secreted there the flown bird, a man five feet eleven inches high. On getting their hero equipped he was safely lodged in jail.

They had been carrying on a practice for some time of entering the premises where no person slept at night, by means of skeleton keys, a large bunch of which was found in their dwelling.

"Tinkle-Inky" Goes up for 10 days
John Campbell (61) described as a vagrant of no fixed abode, and better known to Stevenston folks as "Tinkle-inky", was convicted at Stevenston J.P. Court on Wednesday, on a charge of lodging without consent of the owner in a stable in Schoolwell Street. He was found and apprehended by police officers at 4 o'clock in the morning.

Mr Joseph Clark, who was accompanied on the bench by Mrs Thorburn, imposed a penalty of £1 or 10 days imprisonment.
The prisoner, who was unable to meet the fine, was detained in custody for transmission to Barlinnie Prison.
