HOLIDAY RESORT – ARDROSSAN

Superb weather, with warm sunshine and cloudless skies, still prevail here. A gentle breeze tempers the heat, which would otherwise be oppressive. The beaches are very busy with bathers, especially in the forenoon. Large numbers of people have arrived today for the second fortnight of July, and by the end of the week the town is expected to be crowded. The usual extensive arrangements are being made at the harbour to deal with the Fair traffic. On Friday alone 22 passenger steamers will leave Ardrossan for Arran, Ireland, and the Isle of Man, provision being made for the conveyance of over 21,000 travellers. About 12,000 are expected to sail on Thursday night and about 15,000 on Saturday.

HOLIDAY RESORT – ARDROSSAN

The hot spell was suddenly interrupted on Thursday night when a cold north-easterly wind sprang up and continued during Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, however, although the wind was in the same quarter the sky was cloudless and the weather genial. The town is exceptionally busy with visitors, and at the harbour during the past two days a record number of passengers embarked for Ireland and the Isle of Man. Besides the usual attractions for the Fair holiday-makers dances are being held in the Assembly Hall.

PASSENGER TRAFFIC AT ARDROSSAN HARBOUR

Passenger traffic from Glasgow has been unprecedentedly heavy. Yesterday about 12,000 persons embarked for Belfast, Portrush, Arran, and the Isle of Man, extra steamers being provided by all the shipping companies.

Today there will be no fewer than 22 passenger steamers leaving the harbour – seven for Belfast, three for Portrush, five for the Isle of Man, and the rest for Arran, Rothesay, and Troon. It is expected that fully 22,000 persons will be conveyed to these places.

Although some rain fell during the day yesterday the weather had improved considerably by the evening, and the late sailings were made under pleasant conditions, the sea being smooth and the air mild.
