ARDROSSAN HARBOUR COMPANY SUED

In Glasgow Sheriff Court yesterday proof was led before Sheriff Fyfe in an action at the instance of Mr Edward Alexander and others, the master and owners of the s.s. GEORGE FISHER, of London, for damage laid at £120, sustained by that vessel in consequence, it is alleged, of having been negligently docked by officials at Ardrossan Harbour in September 1910.

The proof, which was adjourned, will be resumed next week.

ARDROSSAN LIBERAL ASSOCIATION BAZAAR

On Saturday afternoon the Ardrossan Liberal Association held a bazaar in the Town Hall, Ardrossan, for the purpose of liquidating the debt which at present exists in connection with the Liberal Club.

At the opening Bailie Fawcett presided over a large gathering, and the bazaar was formally opened by Mr Kenneth M. Oliphant, prospective Liberal candidate for North Ayrshire.

EXTRAORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCE

On Thursday afternoon the engineman of a locomotive at the terminus of the Ardrossan Railway, having to leave his engine for a minute, did so inadvertently when it was on half-cock. To his horror and amazement, he had scarcely turned his back upon it, when it started off towards the Kilwinning station at a speed he could not overtake.

The gate-keeper at Stevenston thinking it was a special train, made way for it, although surprised that the customary signal of the whistle was omitted to be given; and away it sped at a giant pace towards the main line; upon this it got without delay or obstruction, and turning towards Glasgow, did not stop till it reached the junction of the Kilmarnock branch, when want of steam, happily, compelled it to pause.

Had it met with a train or other obstruction, the consequences might have been disastrous. Fortunately, however, no worse consequence resulted than a temporary delay in forwarding the Fleetwood steamer’s passengers from Ardrossan.

Liverpool, March 14 – The HELEN, from Ardrossan, lost foreyard and had one man killed through being in collision with the ARTISTIDES, a Greek brig, for Palermo, which has put back with damage.

ARDROSSAN HARBOUR – TIME FOR RECEIVING OFFERS EXTENDED – TO CONTRACTORS

Offers are wanted for the completion of the wet docks at Ardrossan. The works include rock excavation above and under low water, dock and lock walls, lock gates and machinery.

The plans and specifications may be seen on application at the Harbour or Railway Offices, Ardrossan.

Sealed tenders endorsed “offer for completion of Ardrossan Wet Docks,” addressed to James Moffat, engineer, Ardrossan, will be received until Monday the first of April next.

A VERY OLD INHABITANT

In an Ayr Observer obituary they record the death of widow Agnes Allen, at Ardrossan, a few days ago. The good old lady reached, it will be seen, the extraordinary age of 103 years! She was, we imagine, the oldest person living in Ayrshire.

SCOTTISH JUNIOR FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION

At a meeting of the Selection Committee of the Scottish Junior Football Association in Glasgow on Saturday the team was chosen to oppose England at Firhill Park, Glasgow, on Saturday first.

Included in the team was: - Goodwin (Ardrossan Winton Rovers).
