STRANGE CASE OF LOSS OF MEMORY

Moses Pinkerton, belonging to Dromore, County Down, Ireland, who was found in Ardrossan about a month ago suffering from loss of memory, and has since been in hospital, has now recovered sufficiently to relate his experience.

He left Dromore for Motherwell, where he was formerly employed on the cars. While coming from Belfast to Ardrossan he got into company with a man, who gave him a drink out of a bottle. Thereafter his mind was a blank, and he is unable to recollect anything that happened between then and now. When he left Belfast he had over £30 on his person, but when found in Ardrossan the only thing in his possession was a pipe. It is thought that he was drugged and robbed on his passage.

EARLY VICTORY A CALAMITY

At the monthly meeting of Ardrossan United Free Presbytery – the Rev. G. Buchanan presiding – the Rev. W. D. M. Sutherland moved that the Presbytery overture the General Assembly on the question of appointing a day of national prayer and humiliation.

He thought the Church should give the nation a lead. He was of the opinion that the war had not made the impression on the people that it should. Some of them had hoped for a revival of religion and morality. He sometimes heard talk of peace and victory, but he questioned if the country were ready for peace or prepared for victory.

It would be a calamity if they got victory at this juncture before a real impression had been made on the great mass of the people.
