COMMITTEE MEETING – GLASGOW, KILMARNOCK, AND ARDROSSAN RAILWAY
Mr Moffat, engineer of the Ardrossan Railway and manager of the Ardrossan Harbour, stated the harbour was calculated for an extensive trade; there was a wet dock 3¾ acres in extent, with a tidal basin accessible at any time, and accommodation for several first-class steamers, and for 40 to 60 merchantmen of from 500 tons to 1000 tons burden.
Mr Robson, railway surveyor, stated that the whole length of railway to be made was about 30 miles. No unfavourable curves existed, nor were there any engineering difficulties. The estimate for the works was £340,000.

FALABA TORPEDOED
According to an official statement by the Elder-Dempster Line at their offices in Liverpool the number of passengers and crew of the FALABA who are still to be accounted for is 104.
Mr Robert William Orr, junior, whose name appears in the list of passengers missing, was the son of Captain Orr, harbourmaster, Ardrossan.
Mr Orr, junior, acted as agent at Ardrossan for Messrs Fulton & Company, coal exporters, Glasgow, for a few years. He left Ardrossan on Friday, and was going out to an appointment at Sierra Leone with Messrs Ratcliffe & Sons, shipowners, Liverpool. He was 24 years of age.
[The RMS FALABA was torpedoed on 28 March, 1915, by the German submarine U-28.]

Belfast, 25 March – Put in here, yesterday evening, the schooner RUBY, McKenzie, of and from Ardrossan, for Marseille, leaky, and will have to discharge.
Ardrossan, 25 March – The cargo of the brig HENRY HOLLAND, stranded at Corriegill, Island of Arran, on her outward voyage from Clyde for St. John, New Brunswick, is being landed, by a luggage steamer from the wreck; it consists principally of manufactured goods and bar iron. The cargo is greatly damaged, but the ship is supposed not to have sustained much damage.

The Glasgow & South-Western and Caledonian Railway Companies have made arrangements for the steamboat tourist service from Glasgow to the coast. Starting from today there will be the usual service from the city by train for Greenock, Gourock, Wemyss Bay, and Ardrossan, and thence by steamer to the various Clyde resorts.

The Lord Provost of Glasgow acknowledges additional subscriptions towards the fund on behalf of the Princess Louise Scottish Hospital for limbless sailors and soldiers at Erskine, including £100 from Mr Joseph Russell, Seafield, Ardrossan.

AYRSHIRE COAST TRAINS
Houses are already in demand at Ayr, Troon, and Ardrossan, in consequence of the announcement by the railway company that they are to continue the issue of their season tickets at last year’s rates. By this means a party can travel in a first-class carriage between Glasgow and these towns for about tenpence a trip.
Last year’s express train, which kept time with the greatest regularity, is to be resumed on 1st June. Gentlemen can thereby have the whole business day in town, and dine with their families at the coast.
