SALTCOATS COUNCILLORS AND THE VOTERS’ ROLL

Arising out of an account for preparing the Voters’ Roll for the burgh of Saltcoats Mr McNaughton, at the monthly meeting of the Town Council, asked the clerk to communicate with the Assessor and endeavour to get him to insert voters’ full addresses in the roll.

He was not prepared to table a motion, but he thought the Assessor should compile the list in conformity with statutes. If the full addresses were given much trouble would be saved at elections.

It was agreed to bring the matter up at another meeting.

SALTCOATS TOWN COUNCIL MEETING – JOINT HOSPITAL

In connection with the proposed extension of Ardrossan and Saltcoats Joint Hospital, Saltcoats Town Council had before them a letter from Ardrossan Town Clerk intimating that Ardrossan Town Council were agreeable to combine in the erection of an addition to the present buildings, consisting of two wards of six beds each with an administration block to accommodate three nurses.

The Ardrossan Council thought that for the hospital building proper an iron erection with asbestos lining should be adopted, and not a brick building as recommended by Dr. MacDonald.

Saltcoats Council agreed to adhere to the brick building, and offered to refer the matter to the Local Government Board for decision.

LICENSING COURTS – IRVINE AND SALTCOATS

This Confirmation Court met in Irvine yesterday forenoon – ex-Provost Armour, of Irvine, presiding.

Charles Miller, publican, asked confirmation of a certificate granted to him for premises in Raise Street, Saltcoats. The application for a new certificate had been necessitated by Mr Miller making additions to his property. The application was granted unanimously.

Provost Blakely, of Saltcoats, moved that the sittings of this Court be held in Irvine and Saltcoats on alternate years in order to allow the citizens of each of these towns equal opportunity of availing themselves of the privilege of attending the Court.

Provost Borland, of Irvine, moved an amendment that for the next year the Court be held in Irvine.

Provost Blakely’s motion was carried by six votes to four, and the coming year’s sitting of the Court will accordingly be held in Saltcoats.
