SALTCOATS LICENSING COURT – PROVOST MILLER PRESIDING
An application was considered from Mr John Fleming for a six-day hotel licence for premises known as the Saracen’s Head Hotel.
Mr Alfred McNaughton, writer, Paisley, who appeared for the applicant stated that there was no hotel licence in the town, and if the application was granted it would be a convenience to visitors and the townspeople alike.
Bailie Armour moved that the application be not granted.
Provost Miller, in seconding the motion, pointed out that when the premises held a full hotel licence the Court had found that there was very little legitimate hotel business done, and it had simply been a “howf” for Sunday drinking.
Bailie MacGregor moved that the application be granted. There was a need for an hotel in the town, and the necessary accommodation could be found in Mr Fleming’s premises.
The Court refused the application.
