FLOODING AT SALTCOATS

At the monthly meeting of Saltcoats Town Council a letter was read from Messrs Merry & Cunninghame, Ardeer, relating to the serious flooding in the east end of the town. They stated that as far back as 1901 they had proposed laying a pipe through the Glasgow & South-Western Railway bank, but the railway company had objected. The only method which would now reduce the water and uncover a considerable area of the flooded ground would be to make a culvert and convey the water to the sea.

The Town Clerk intimated that he had received a letter from the property owners in the flooded area stating that they were not prepared to bear any part of the cost of removing the water.

The Council are at present in negotiations with the proprietor of Auchenharvie estate and the Caledonian and Glasgow & South-Western Railway Companies on the subject of draining the flooded area.
