Stevenston Family History Books

Does anyone know how to find any possible books on the families that lived in Stevenston in the 1800's? I have several generations from Stevenston, so I thought maybe there were some writings about the families in that community.
Also, does anyone know what Coal Mines were in that area in the 1800's?
My Great Great Grandfather's were coal miners in the Stevenston area.

Re Stevenston families there are the Rev Dr Landsborough census results from the early 1800's on the website. these were taken by the local minister at the time for the parish of Stevenston (this included a small part of Saltcoats at the Stevenston end.
