Hi Sarah,

I've started to have a look at the Irish records today and have discovered that you can get copies of the births, deaths and marriages records for free. There are a few oddities that I'm trying to nut out and will then place them all into the tree, and it looks as though I will be able to get another few generations back.

I've been using this free platform to put it together and it's easy to use and looks as though I can transfer the McAteer info across to another users tree.

Just joined.Born in Saltcoats in Springvale Street.Have lived here since.Very interested in the history of the town and the area.Presenty a guide at Portencross Castle.Was also a guide at Burns Cottage and the Museum until 2020.At the moment would like to know if there are any updates on the excavation at Montfode.I was there when Headland Archaeology found the graves and have copies of the paperwork.Has a date been decided?I would like to know more about the site and if Christianity came via Whithorn.I am sure there are more early Christian sites in the west that have yet to be discovered.

I knew that my grandfathers family came originally from Ayrshire , but was never sure.
Went back through birth certificates , census , marriage certificates etc and managed to trace the family back to Ardeer Square.
As children we were never encouraged to ask about the family history (its complicated) .Now in my 60s ,i feel i can trawl through old archieves and see where i am in the world

I used to live in Seamill and went to primary school in West Kilbride (61-68) followed by Ardrossan Academy (68-74) then Paisley Tech (74-78) before joining British Petroleum and traveling all over the world.

Very fond memories of West Kilbride and Ardrossan/Saltcoats area. Haven't been back to Scotland since 1999 and indeed the UK since 2012.

Hi, I lived in Dalry from my birth in September 1966 until January 1967 when we moved to Firth View, top flat in Ardoch Cresc Stevenston. When the houses got built around 1970 in Cambuskeith Road, we all moved up there. Lived there until moving back to Dalry in 1977. My grandparents always lived in Stevenston, Trewlany Terrace then Townhead Street. Ardeer Rec was a big part of our lives between my parents and grand parents going on a Saturday night to the dancing and my dad playing squash.

I've just joined as I saw a post about ICI boats, which my grandfather worked on. I stay in Ardrossan, went to Ardrossan Academy Primary and secondary in what is now the old building and when the new building there was just being built, so that will give you some idea of how old I am-just glad to still be here! My father, uncle and his wife all worked in Murchie's-if you ate in their tearoom or went away with Winton Rovers you would've eaten some of their cakes or pies. My mother worked in the SMT bus garage in Princes Street. She came from Saltcoats. You can probably tell from this post I'm right into history and particularly family history. Although nowhere's perfect and there are problems everywhere I feel lucky to live in a place where there is lots (and I mean lots) of fresh air and nice surroundings. Thanks for letting me join.

Hi Jenni, Husbands name was Patrick James Mcateer born Oct1937,Father was Stephen, Mother Elizabeth Rodgers a Saltcoats girl Pat was born in Ardrossan sister Maureen the same, they were brought up with their grandparents
on the mother side after their father died in the war as Mum had to work. know absolutely nothing about the McAteer side as Pats Mother was Protestant and they never bothered about them after the Father died.
Un fortunately it was the old Protestant and Catholic days.

Maureen is a cousin of my late mother who was Mary Ellen Anderson whose mother Agnes Rodgers who I think was Elizabeth Rodgers sister. Did Elizabeth (Lizzie) later remarry as Doyle?
