Post by Penny Tray »

Those of you who have an interest in local railway history or who come from railway families might be attracted to the following website which contains Board of Trade reports on two local accidents.

The first occurred on 18 August 1906 when two passengers trains collided at Saltcoats Railway Station, resulting in over 80 injuries, 3 of which were serious.

Railway personnel mentioned include - Francis Breckenridge, Robert Brown, William Brown, John Campbell, James Gerrard, Robert Glen, Richard Montgomerie, John McGlanchie, James Mclaughlin, John Patterson and Joseph Smith.

The second occurred on 14 January 1909 near Stevenston Railway Station when an empty carriage train collided with a mineral train, resulting in one fatality (Robert Wilson) and 2 serious injuries.

Railway personnel mention include - William Andrew, William Auld, Thomas Bell, James Breckenridge, William Brown, James Cain, Alexander Galloway, Inspector Gibson, James Gilchrist, Thomas Hunter, William McMurtrie, Andrew Patterson, John Scott, James Stewart and Peter Wilson.

Simply word search 'Saltcoats' and 'Stevenston' to pinpoint the accidents and then download the relevant link to access the full narratives.
