Scammell Shell tanker
I thought that you might be interested in this photo of a Scammell Shell tanker. The same type that ran from Ardrossan Shell Mex in the 60s. I took this photo at Coventry Transport Museum in June 2009.
I thought it might bring back memories to the people that drove them.
My memories of them was when I walked along the High Road from school and these lorries were passing.

Hi
Thanks for the picture it brought me back to the early sixties when my uncle, Andy McMillan drove for the Shell and I can remember him coming in from work with his Black Donkey Jacket and his Shell Cap on.

Bikerbobby,
Thanks for that post too. Where would growing up in Ardrossan be without Shell Tankers driving through the town.
Your photo also reminded me of the following Ardrossan photo.
Bigwull, couldn't possibly be a Steel family connection, could there?

Re: Scammell Shell tanker
Margaret - I used to love watching the scammells being reversed into the garages at the top of the refinery over to the right of the patrol box. I have said before that I used to go to the library then walk up the brae and wait at the bottom of the patrol box on my dad clocking out at 4.30pm.
I used to while the time away watching the scammells reversing into their "beds" for the night. Shell Mex was such a huge part of life if your dad worked there. I can still shut my eyes and smell the "Shell" smell. Funnily enough years later I was speaking to a Dutch guy who's dad also worked with Shell and I mentioned the smell and he could describe it too.

JS,
The photo originates from the OTHER GROUP PHOTOS in the School Photograph section on Threetowners. There are two others there - the Shell Mex Choir - and a kids Christmas Party.
