Here are some pictures of Ardrossan Castle, and the view from Castle Hill, from the early 1960s.
This first one gives a powerful impression of the solid mass of it :
This second one shows it with trees around it :
And this is the view from Castle Hill over South Crescent at the same date, with the bridge over the railway in lower left :
All three were taken by my father.

Second Photo - I wonder what the notice on the wall says.
Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.
Re: Castle Views 1960s
The third photo shows how tidy the footpath from the footbridge to Ardrossan outdoor bowling club was compared to the over grown wilderness it has become.
Penny if I remember correctly the notice referred to the dangers regarding the condition of the castle stonework.

Yes, there was a notice on the castle wall warning of danger. When I was small I thought it was because of the ghosts !
Here are some more pictures of the Castle, from 1969 this time.
This first one shows the other part of the castle ruins , with a view behind from the other side of the hill. A stiff breeze blowing by the looks of it.
And this one is in glorious colour...

The 4th photo is of the kitchen area and in the foreground you can just make out the defensive ditch which the council in their wisdom had filled in for safety reasons?
