Germany 5 1 Scotland

Ok hope we have all calmed down after that dreadful performance. We next face Switzerland on Wednesday who looked pretty impressive against Hungary today winning 3-1.We can't get any worse so that game can't come quick enough and let's give that magnificent tartan army something to be proud .

Brian that was atrocious last night, rabbits in the headlights. Another occasion where a brilliant day was spoiled by the game. As you say Switzerland next in koln on Wednesday, a draw at worst or it's over.

Scotland 1 1 Switzerland

A better performance last night and we nearly stole it when Hanley hit the post late on. Next up is Hungary on Sunday and if we win that can go through to the next round ??

Defending was woeful at times last night and looks like Tierney is goosed again (that boy just can't catch a break) and if he did it would probably be his leg.
We should have enough to beat Hungary on Sunday but it's us we're talking about .
As an aside the stadium last night was probably one of the best I've been in, a proper football ground with the stands right on top of the pitch, atmosphere was fantastic.

As a long time supporter I have discovered Over the years that Scotland football team is nothing if not consistent. That is consistently building us up to believe we are better than we actually are, and then the inevitable happens and we end up completely deflated.

Watching the game last night, I couldn't get the late Jimmy Johnstone, of Celtic and Scotland, out of my mind. He would have turned the Hungarian defence inside-out - a 5' 4" footballing genius - and the best player I've ever seen, and I've been priveleged to see many.

His rowing skills were well worth noting too

Not technically accurate Meg. There were no oars in the boat  . That's what the problem was. And it was the late Sandy Jardine, of Rangers, who pushed Jimmy him out from the shore. The outgoing tide did the rest  . Jimmy just sat there until the coastguard arrived. Fifty years ago, by the way.

I know - I worked for TNPG at Hunterston at the time - TNPG owned the Springfield Hotel in Largs (next to the Queens Hotel where the squad were staying) and there was a big TNPG farewell party for some guys moving on to Hinckley Power Station that night in the Springfield. I was at that party as was most of the Scotland team. We all watched them getting drunker and drunker. Then watched them cross the road onto Largs beach to “skim stones” and the rest - well - is history

The saving grace was that they beat England 2-0 a couple of days later.
