THE SALTCOATS AND IRVINE BURGHS LICENSING APPEAL COURT

The Saltcoats and Irvine Burgh Licensing Appeal Court was held yesterday at Saltcoats – Mr Hunter, Ayr, presiding.

Mr James Frew, trustee in the estate of the late Mr J. Dunkeld, appealed against the decision of the Saltcoats Magistrates refusing renewal of the licence to the Saracen’s Head Hotel, Saltcoats.

Mr Joseph Kirkland appeared in support of the appeal and Mr Thomas Smith represented the Magistrates.

After hearing the agents, Provost Millar moved that the licence not be granted. Bailie Muir, Irvine, moved that the appeal be sustained.

Six voted for the motion and six for the amendment, and the Chairman gave his casting vote for granting the licence.

SALTCOATS TOWN COUNCIL MEETING – BAILIE CHRISTIE PRESIDING

At a meeting of Saltcoats Town Council last night it was reported that at a meeting with the committee of the swimming club it had been decided to prepare a plan for the final completion of the bathing pond, with all requisite accommodation for ladies.

As the Council considered it would be impossible to have additional permanent buildings erected this season it was agreed to permit ladies to have the exclusive use of the pond from 9.30 a.m. to noon daily.

At a later stage Councillor Hunter gave notice that at the next meeting he would move that as an experiment mixed bathing be permitted within the pond for two or three hours daily during the month of August.
