Death Of A Scottish Internationalist

Andrew Wilson, a well-known Scottish International footballer, who played centre-forward for Sheffield Wednesday for about 20 years, died at Patterton Farm, in the parish of Kilwinning, on Tuesday.

He started his football career with Irvine Meadow XI. and for a season was Clyde's centre-forward before going to Sheffield Wednesday over 40 years ago. After leaving Sheffield he was manager of Oldham Athletic and of Bristol Rovers. About two years ago he came back to his native county and to his early occupation of farming.

He played for Scotland against England on several occasions. On one occasion he had as one of his team-mates his brother David of Oldham Athletic. This was one of the very rare occasions on which two brothers have played in the same international match for Scotland against England. Other two brothers, James and Alexander, were prominent players with Preston North End. Mr Wilson was 66, and is survived by his wife and two daughters.
