I've found some pictures of some Three Towns councillors from the early 1970s, and here are the first three : all Saltcoats councillors of the Tory party.
Councillor John McAllister, who served from 1969 to 1971 :
Councillor T D Lindsay :
and lastly Councillor Mrs Margaret McGregor:

Am I right in thinking that Councillor John McAllister was the founder of the Kandy Bar in Hamilton Street, Saltcoats?

I don't know, PT, but it certainly says in the little article I have about his retirement from the council that it was pressure of business that caused him to resign, which suggests you may be right.
Meanwhile, the final three councillors, this time Labour councillors from Stevenston:
Councillor Archie Lambie :
Councillor Robert Stevenson :
and Councillor T Murphy :
And I have a question of my own : what relation ,if any, was Councillor Archie Lambie to the famed Labour party Lambies of Saltcoats ?

PT I’m pretty sure you are correct the son who runs the business now is the spitting image of him in that photoPenny Tray wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2023 10:50 pm Am I right in thinking that Councillor John McAllister was the founder of the Kandy Bar in Hamilton Street, Saltcoats?

I don't know where he lived beforehand but Coucillor John McLaughlan came to live at 5 Rowanside Terrace, Ardrossan, following his marriage to Mrs O'Hare, of that address, her first husband having died some time previously in an Ardeer Factory explosion.

PT, I remember the day Mrs. OHaire lost her husband in that explosion. Watching the long black car slowly drive up Rowanside Terrace and stopping outside her door, we all knew what that meant. We lived across the street at # 8 and had heard the explosion earlier in the day when we were up the Cannon Hill playing. Must have been 1954 or 55. Sad day!
