Ardrossan Home Guard - Photo

Post by Penny Tray »

Whilst enjoying a read through ardrossanships.com I came across this photo of the local Home Guard which I don't recall seeing on our own site. The Guard apparently trained in the Primrose Valley and this photo, I think, is taken at the farm road end at the head of the Valley.

In another topic on our own site, 'Local Mine Watchers', Robert Cook and Meg mentioned that their fathers were in the Home Guard.

The pillars visible in the original photograph, I see, are still in place:

Thanks for posting the photo, PT. :D
My ancestors farmed there in the 1800s.

The following information, particularly at No. 13, may be of interest to those whose family members served in the local Home Guard.

I realise this is a very old post but does anyone have a copy of the Home Guard photo, the link no longer works.

Hi Hugie

Thanks for the link. There are so few photos of Ardrossan Home Guard, so great to see the photo. Not sure it is the one I was asking for as it doesn't have the Busbie pillars refereed to by Penny.

Hanan, Perhaps this is the photo you were looking for - it's been sent to me by member Robert Cook. I believe it shows the local contigent of Home Guard at Meikle Busbie. See PT's image in the second post in this topic.
