Tommy Clarkson

Many fine left wingers have been seen with Irvine clubs and we consider Tommy Clarkson, of the Meadow, one of the best. While agreeing he was moody, still on his game he was one of the best.

Meadow fans will remember Tommy carrying play to the opponents end and running almost to the flag pole, then sending over an Alan Morton lob. This was his masterpiece, but he also possessed a dangerous left foot. When a ball came out to the corner of the eighteen yards line, he could meet it first time, and nine times out of ten it went to the back of the net.

A refined lad, clean in play and trick on the ball. But there were times when he didn't seem to care whether he went for the ball or not, but luckily these off days were few. As a left winger he would have gone far in the game but he seemed the type of lad who wanted no promotion, just to play for Meadow and spent that after- noon wearing their colours.
