Jamie McCallum - Australian PGA Awards

Post by Hughie »

Last night, January 11, 2022 in the Brisbane City Hall in Queensland, amongst the award winners was Jamie McCallum named the PGA National Coach of the Year 2021 - Game Development. Great present for his mum - her eightieth birthday.

Last month Jamie had been named our Victorian state's Development Coach of the Year for his work with schools in Melbourne and junior golf in general. The following tells the story:

"Making junior golf a priority has led Jamie McCallum at Albert Park Driving Range being acknowledged as the Game Development Coach of the Year.
In addition to a flourishing MyGolf program that has welcomed some 400 kids to Albert Park McCallum has actively sought new opportunities to engage kids with golf.

He has aligned with the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre working closely with their holiday program ‘Planet Sport’ to introduce more than 100 children to golf every school holidays and worked with country schools such as St Patrick’s College Ballarat and Hamilton College to develop and run a ‘City Experience’ golf program at Albert Park as part of their annual school camp.

McCallum has also conducted more than 100 sessions within schools, constructing appropriate golf programs for such schools as St Michael’s Grammar, Scotch College, Haileybury College, Albert Park College, Star of the Sea, Wesley College, Christ Church Grammar, Christian Boys College, MacRobertson Girls High School, Melbourne Girls Grammar, Melbourne High School, Box Hill College and Melbourne Grammar.

As part of his ongoing education McCallum also became one of the first PGA Professionals in Australia to become an accredited ‘First Tee’ instructor".

Shame you couldn't get to go to the awards ceremony in these Covid times. Many congratulations to Jamie on his achievements; and many happy returns to Betty on her landmark birthday.

Hughie,

It's probably a day late by now but please extend my best birthday wishes to Betty, and congraulations to Jamie - a great achievement.

Did you ever play golf before you moved to Australia?
Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.

Just on the local putting greens, and when I was a teenager I played the pitch and putt course on the low green at Irvine a few times.

Hugh, pass on our congratulations to Jamie from Bobby and I.
Often wonder what our kids would be doing with their lives if we hadn’t made the big move when we were young .
Think we made a good move although we always miss our ain folks.
