26 FEBRUARY 1841
SHIPPING CASUALTY
Ardrossan, February 16 – Yesterday morning, part of a vessel’s deck was discovered drifting in on the shore. A boat and crew went off, and towed it into the harbour. It proves to be the fore-part of a deck, with windlass-bits attached. The vessel appears to have been from 80 to 100 tons. The beams are much decayed. The plank looks as if burst asunder only a few days since.

ASSAULT
At Ayr Sheriff Court yesterday Robert Gray, 24 Friarscroft Street, Irvine, was sentenced by Sheriff Broun to pay a fine of £2 and to find £1 caution for his good behaviour for six months for assaulting James Ralston, engineer, 3 Cameron Place, Kilwinning.
The Fiscal said the incident arose out of a football match played on February 14 at Irvine between an Ardrossan team and an Irvine team.
Accused was a member of the Irvine team, and the man whom he assaulted a member of the opposing side. Some incident occurred between the two in the course of the game for which the referee awarded a free kick against the Irvine team.
After the game was over the accused stepped forward to Ralston and assaulted him, fracturing his lower jaw, with the result that he had been unable to speak for nine or ten days,
