1911 Census Look-up Request

Post by Jim McCreadie »

I would greatly appreciate a look-up of the 1911 Census for Calton, Glasgow. Family name - McCue, Parents: Thomas (?) and Lizzie, at least one male child named Constantine. My grannie was Margaret or Maggie.

Follow-up to this request.
Thomas McCUE (also seen as McHUGH) and Elizabeth (Lizzie FERRIS) married 13 May 1887 at Calton, Glasgow.
Thomas was recorded as age 28 (b. circa 1859) and Elizabeth (Lizzie”) Ferris as age 20 (b. circa 1867).
1911 Census:
Thomas (52)
Lizzie (42), married 24 years [prob incorrect as she would have been 18 years at marriage - known to be 20 years] 10 children, 7 living)
Maggie (18)
Josephine (16)
Isabella (14)
Thomas (12)
Constantine (10)
Mary (8)
Norah (2)
All born Lanark.
I now aim to locate the 3 deceased children. I have searched Scotland’s People using as many variations and wildcards as I can think of. I have searched for the deceased children with same names as those living; eg. located a Constantine McCUE (wrong parents) born in Calton, thinking he was named for Thomas’ father or deceased child. I also searched the timeline from marriage in 1887 to Maggie’s birth (8th March 1893) AND from Mary’s birth circa 1903 to 1911.
I would be grateful if a subscriber were able to check the 1901 and 1891 Censuses to locate the missing children.
Calton would appear to be the centre of my extended maternal family as my mother was also born there.

I have located one of the missing children. Elizabeth was 2 months old when she was recorded on the 1891 Census but absent from the 1901 Census. I located her Death Extract to confirm parentage and she passed 27th March 1896, age 5 years. Two remaining.

Hi Jim

Did you locate the 1891 census? Only asking as I see you've mentioned details from it in your last post. Struggling to find anything for the family in the 1901 census even with a lot of surname variations. I'll keep looking though. Here's what I've found so far:

1891 Census

Address 118 Abercrombie Street, Calton, Glasgow
All showing as being born in Glasgow, Lanarkshire
Date of census: 5/6 April 1891

Thomas McCue (32) – slipper maker
Elizabeth McCue (23)
Mary A. McCue (11)
Julia McCue (3)
Elizabeth McCue (2 months)

Campbell

All resolved now thanks. “Lizzie” mis-stated her children, she bore 10 and at time of 1911 Census 8 were living. I have located all her children. Thank you for your effort.

Hi Jim

I recognise some of the names in your email. Are you descended from Margaret Hamilton? If so, we have a connection - her sister Julia was my great-grandmother. If you email me at dugaldmclardy at outlook.com, I'd be happy to share my McCue information with you.

Best wishes

Dominic

Huh? That was very poor English and should have read "Dominic, good morning from Western Australia." Apologies for brain-fog but my excuse is advancing years - > 70.
