THE WRECK OF THE CHUSAN

Yesterday morning, the body of a coloured seaman was found on rocks at the Inches, Ardrossan, close to the spot where the others were found on Saturday.

The body was interred in Ardrossan Cemetery in the course of the forenoon. It is the ninth body which has been washed ashore since the CHUSAN was wrecked.

A match between the above clubs was played on Saturday last on the ground of the latter, resulting in favour of the Ardrossan team by one goal and two tries to one try.

ARDROSSAN INDEPENDENT CONGREGATION

The members and friends of the Independent Church, Ardrossan, celebrated their 29th anniversary by a soiree, which took place in the church on Monday evening. The building was completely filled.

The chair was occupied by the Rev. Alexander Cross, the esteemed pastor of the church, who, after tea, delivered and excellent address in the course of which he reviewed the many changes which had occurred during his pastorate.

Interesting addresses were subsequently delivered by the Rev. Messrs Alexander Davidson, Greenock; Trenwith, Kilwinning; J. McIldowie, Ayr; and Rev. Robert Hood, Glasgow.

Some excellent pieces of music were rendered by the church choir.

SHIPPING CASUALTY

Queenstown, November 16 – The Velada, Captain Kidd, with coal, from Ardrossan to Cardenas, has arrived here with loss of stanchions, bulwarks, boats, and sundry other damage.

ARDROSSAN GRAIN MARKET

At this market on Thursday there was an average attendance, though the business done was on a limited scale. The stock in market was small and there were few buyers.

Upwards of 80 bolls wheat sold at 21s. Oatmeal sold for 48s per load, and 4 quarters oats sold at 22s.

ARDROSSAN HARBOUR EXTENSIONS AND CONTRACT No. 1

The directors of Ardrossan Harbour Company are prepared to receive tenders for the construction of a wet dock (about 9½ acres), outer tidal basin (about 4¾ acres), entrance channel (including soft and rock dredgings), breakwater, quay walls, and other works.

The drawings and specifications may be seen at the office of John Strain, M. Inst. C.E., 154 West George Street, Glasgow, on and after 24 November.

Copies of specifications and duplicate copies of tender and schedule may be obtained from the engineer, on payment of three guineas (which sum will not be returned).

An assistant engineer will be at Ardrossan Station on Thursday, 2nd December, at 9.50 a.m., to point out to contractors the site of the proposed works.

The successful contractors shall pay the cost of the schedule measurements.

Sealed tenders, addressed to the Engineer, and marked “Tender Ardrossan Harbour Extension Contract No. 1” must be lodged with him on or before Monday, 20 December, 1886.

The directors do not bind themselves to accept the lowest or any tender.

ARDROSSAN INDEPENDENT CHURCH

The anniversary soiree of the Independent Church was held on Monday night, the church being quite filled. The Rev. Alexander Cross, the respected pastor, presided, and delivered an excellent opening speech, in the course of which he stated that it was exactly forty years since he was ordained as minister of the church, and of the five ministers who took part in the services on that occasion only Principal Morrison remained. Only about a dozen of the members of the congregation remained – all the others had gone.

Interesting addresses were delivered by Rev. Mr Hood, Glasgow; Captain Brotchie, Greenock; Rev. Mr Greenhill, Saltcoats; Rev. Mr McRoberts, Dreghorn; and Rev. Mr Russell, Kilwinning; while the choir sang several pieces.
